The location, 6760 Providence St., is one of three owned by Jonathan Hoag and Julie Theroux, who purchased the business in 2014. In one corner a display is flush with triathlon gear, while across the way the shop's custom apparel is on display nearby the bike mechanics who spend their days working to keep up with a long list of service calls, at least three weeks deep. The space is filled with bikes of all makes, models, and colors. The crisis, however, would be difficult to notice when strolling through CycleWerks Bicycle & Fitness in Whitehouse. Manufacturers that have typically kept on hand hundreds of bikes now face empty warehouses as demand persists. The trend, which rippled across the nation, has triggered a massive bike shortage. ![]() May 3-Since the onset of the pandemic, thousands of Toledo-area residents have flocked to bike shops to purchase equipment and gear, many in search of a healthy and safe activity as well as a respite from quarantine.
